Many people see addiction as a character flaw or just a series of bad choices. Most people don’t recognize that addiction is, in fact, a chronic disease of the brain. And most Christians don’t fully realize the spiritual roots of their very own addictions.

As Christian leaders, we know that our congregations are not immune from serious, painful addictions. But, are we doing enough as leaders to help those within the walls of our churches with those deep struggles? It can often be a subject we tend to ignore, but one we can’t afford to avoid.
